The general condition of thermal diagnostics of knots and structures of heavy-duty dump trucks is considered. Failures of their units and elements and their heating during operation of heavy-duty dump trucks have been analyzed in detail. The physical principles of using temperature as a diagnostic parameter of aggregates and structures of such machines are considered. The peculiarities of the functioning of individual units and designs of BelAZ dump trucks are singled out and the practice of their thermal diagnostics is analyzed. The possibility of fixing the motion of fatigue cracks and preventing brittle fracture of steel elements during monitoring of the technical state by a thermal passive method is shown. Prospective directions of development of thermal diagnostics with reference to aggregates and units of mobile machines are formulated and possible difficulties of technical diagnostics with the use of deformation heating are indicated.
